Vera had to dress up as an evacuee today and spend 8 hours in the sports hall learning about ‘soup and steam trains and luggage’. Apparently the people who chose the evacuees in the countryside ‘looked the children in the eyes really hard to see if they would be strong enough to work on their farms’. I ask her if she knew who dropped the bombs on London. ‘The Jewish?’ she said.
Short history lesson over dinner this evening.
Still at least she got her outfit right.

those pesky jewish nazis. I love this photo – when I was vera’s age I was obsessed with WW2 but I was much less cute – I had an army uniform with a proper tin helmet and used to carry a ration card everywhere (yes, wierdo alert…)

yep i think we’ve got it straight about the jews. although she did ask how you win a war and was surprised and a bit devastated by my response that you have to kill the most people. all very grim…. so yes we’re now concentrating mainly on songs and old fashioned sweets. love that you wore a tin hat. a ration-card carrying nutcase genius. too cute.
